11 New Government Colleges To Start From This Academic Year –Rakhra

Ludhiana, March 30, 2016: Punjab government’s Higher Education, Water Supply & Sanitation Minister Mr Surjit Singh Rakhra today said that for uplifting the standard of education in the state, 11 new government colleges would be started in Punjab from this academic year onwards, while two professional colleges are being developed at Jalandhar and Patiala. He said that these two professional colleges would be started from next academic year.
Mr Rakhra was in city to attend the annual functions at SCD Government College and Government College for Girls, here today. While speaking to media persons, Mr Surjit Singh Rakhra said that the Punjab government is committed for uplifting the standard of higher education and that is why 11 new government colleges are being opened. He informed that these colleges would be opened at Pathankot, Ferozepur, Dharamkot, Sujanpur, Kishankot, Dhuri, Bahadarpur, Barnala, Phillaur, Nakodar and Moonak. Similarly, the buildings of Sports College Jalandhar and Aeronautical College Patiala are also under construction, which would be completed soon.
Cabinet Minister Mr Surjit Singh Rakhra said that the Punjab government is focusing on uplifting basic infrastructure for higher education in the state and that is why grants worth crores have been issued to all government colleges. While replying to a question related to recruitment of teachers in government colleges, Mr Surjit Singh Rakhra said that the Hon’ble Punjab & Haryana High Court has stayed the recruitment process for government colleges and new recruitments would be made once this stay is vacated.
He further said that Punjab government is committed for providing potable drinking water and toilets to all households in the state and people as well as the Panchayat’s should help the state government in this noble cause. He said that RO systems are being installed in the villages and also appealed to the panchayat’s and people that they should consume only RO system water because it is very clean.
While replying to another question regarding Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, Mr Surjit Singh Rakhra said that both these parties have already been rejected by the Punjabis and people would not vote for them in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections and Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party would form government for third consecutive time.
While attending the function at SCD Government College, Mr Surjit Singh Rakhra awarded “Role of Honor”, “College Colour”, “Certificate of Merit” and other awards to the students. He also inaugurated a “Smart Class” in the college premises. Besides this, he also awarded prizes to the students at Government College for Girls.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Ludhiana (East) MLA Mr Ranjit Singh Dhillon, Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board chairman Mr Santa Singh Umedpuri, Principal Dharam Singh Sandhu, Principal Mohinder Kaur Grewal, SAD (Urban) district president Harbhajan Singh Dang, Tejinderpal Singh, besides several others.
