12 Medical students of RPGMC Kangra fined 50,000 each and suspension of six months from hostel and three months from classes for ragging

12 MBBS students of Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Kangra (RPGMC) have been fined Rs.50,000 each for being involved in ragging in the college hostel. The students found involved in ragging have also been suspended from the hostel for six months and from the college for three month.

Dharamsala, September 21, 2023: 12 MBBS students of Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Kangra (RPGMC) have been fined Rs.50,000 each for being involved in ragging in the college hostel. The students found involved in ragging have also been suspended from the hostel for six months and from the college for three month.

Two students of the first year have been warned, for hiding the information from college authorities.

Principal Dr Bhanu Awasthi confirmed the punishment. He said , “Our college has anti ragging committees and anti- ragging squads which work regularly to check such incidents. One of such committees, when checking the hostels on Sunday, found practical copies of senior students in the rooms of 1st year students. The matter was given to the anti-ragging squad on Monday for verification, the 1st report which was submitted on Tuesday said that six senior students were found guilty and recommended a fine of Rs.50,000 each and suspension of six months from hostel and three months from the classes.

The second report submitted by the squad came on Wednesday, also recommended the punishment of a fine of Rs.50,000 each and suspension of six months from hostel and three months from the classes to six more students, making a total of 12 senior MBBS students of the institution. It also recommended giving warning to two 1st year students from whom the practical copies were found, for not reporting the issue to authorities.”

All the 12 students found involved in ragging have been suspended from the hostel for six months and from the college for three months.
