The 14th Annual International Conference of the Comparative Education Society of India (CESI) commenced at Panjab University (PU), here today.

Chandigarh, November 22, 2024: The 14th Annual International Conference of the Comparative Education Society of India (CESI) commenced at Panjab University (PU), here today.
As many as 250 scholars, educators, senior professors and policy-makers from India and abroad are participating in the prestigious three days conference to discuss on contemporary educational issues on the theme of “State, Market and Civil Society: Rethinking Education for Sustainable Futures". The conference is being hosted by the PU Department of Education and PU Department of Philosophy. PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig felicitated the dignitaries.
In his keynote address, Prof. Edward Vickers, Professor of Comparative Education and UNESCO Chair on Education for peace, social justice and global citizenship, in Kyushu University, Japan, highlighted the role of education in building peaceful and just society. He deliberated on the emerging challenges to the education system and suggested to revisit the role of academicians to counter these challenges. He apprised how across the world, the humanity is under stress due to unprecedented competition of survival. He focused on the role of education and research in bringing peace and harmony across the globe. He cautioned that the neoliberal globalization is accelerating the competitive environment in which social sciences are being overlooked. He endorsed Gandhi’s idea of education, democracy and justice.
Earlier, at the inaugural session, the convener of the conference, Prof. Satvinderpal Kaur presented the welcome address, in which she briefed the audience about the 3 days event in which many noted academicians and scholars will be presenting their research papers in the conference.
CESI’s first issue of journal was also launched in the inaugural session. Faculty from Panjab University and other Universities participated in the event. Prof. Kuldeep Kaur presented a vote of thanks to all who supported to organize the international conference. A vibrant cultural program showcasing the rich heritage of Punjab was also held in the evening.
