The Department of Fine Arts at LPU, in collaboration with the Karnataka Shilpa Kala Academy, organized a 15-day Traditional Wood & Bronze Sculpting Workshop.

Jalandhar, February 24, 2025: The hum of chisels and hammers filled the air as students' visions came to life through the ancient techniques of wood and bronze sculpting. The National Traditional Wood & Bronze Camp, a prestigious initiative organized by the Lovely Professional University’s (LPU’s) Department of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Karnataka Shilpa Kala Academy, Bengaluru, became a vibrant celebration of India’s rich artistic heritage. Over the span of 15 days, fifteen renowned sculptors, fine arts students, and independent artists from across the country united to honor and preserve the timeless crafts of wood and bronze, creating an atmosphere of creativity and cultural pride.
The workshop focused on the ancient methods of bronze and woodworking, offering a comprehensive educational experience that blended historical techniques with contemporary artistic expressions. Master artisans and scholars, known for their expertise in traditional sculpting, led interactive discussions, hands-on training sessions, and live demonstrations that allowed participants to immerse themselves in these timeless crafts.
Under the expert guidance of seasoned artisans, students honed their skills in chiseling, carving, and lost-wax bronze casting, immersing themselves in the intricate techniques that bring sculptures to life. Instructors and attendees collaborated on every phase of the creative process, from initial carving to final casting. Emphasis was placed on the careful selection of materials, precise tool usage, and the art of finishing, allowing students to develop a deep understanding of traditional sculpting methods.
Dr. Col. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor of LPU, expressed deep appreciation for the event's significance. Dr. Mittal remarked, “LPU takes immense pride in preserving our nation’s rich cultural tapestry while encouraging the younger generation to carry it forward with innovation. Through this initiative, we not only safeguard our heritage but also integrate it into the evolving world of modern art."
The camp provided an invaluable opportunity to ensure that these endangered traditional skills are passed down to the next generation of artists, helping preserve India's cultural legacy. The collaborative atmosphere fostered a strong sense of community, with an emphasis on skill development, knowledge-sharing, and nurturing emerging talent.
