Ludhiana, August 26, 2012: A team of Anti Narcotics and Anti Excise Smuggling Cell, Ludhiana, on Saturday, had held a nakabandi near Civil Hospital premises yesterday.
Addressing a press conference, Gurpreet Singh Toor Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana told that a car driver was signaled to stop on suspicion. But, the car driver attempted to flee. The naka party men chased and apprehended the car driver identified as Subhash Kumar, alias Happy, resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar here.
On search, police recovered 1.50- kg of opium worth Rs. 1.25 lakh.
A case has been registered against the accused at Police Division No.2.
Preliminary police inquiries reveal that the accused had brought this consignment from Kishangarh in Rajasthan. The accused was supposed to sell this opium at the rate between Rs. 80,000 and Rs.90,000 per kg.
The accused has been actively working in this illegal trade for the last over a decade. Similar cases were also registered against him in the past.
