Dharamshala, November 29, 2015: A 15-year old girl was allegedly gang raped by four youths in the Chattri area, near Dharamshala. Though the incident occurred on November 23, it came to light when parents of the victim lodged a complaint at the Shahpur police station on November 28. “All four accused, were arrested late on Saturday,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hitesh Lakhanpal, adding that final medical examination report is still awaited.
DSP Lakhanpal informed the media that the victim had gone to attend a jagrata (religious function) in the village where a youth, who was known to the girl, told her that a friend of hers was waiting outside.
On this pretext, the youth then took the victim to a secluded place where three others joined him and took turns at rape the minor.
“Two of the accused, Kanhaiya Ram (24) and Sahil Kumar Sanu(23), hail from the same village as that of the victim. The two others - Karan Gir (20) and Nitish Singh (18) - belong to Pathankot and Amritsar respectively,” said Lakhanpal.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under Section 376 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Further investigations in the case are on.
