Visits Grain Markets In Khanna & Doraha & Inspects Wheat Procurement Process Ludhiana, April 24, 2019: Secretary Agriculture Punjab Mr Kahan Singh Pannu today visited the grain markets in Khanna and Doraha towns of district Ludhiana and took stock of the ongoing wheat procurement operations. He stated that till April 23, around 16.11 lakh tonnes of wheat has arrived in mandis across the state, out of which government has already procured 12.86 lakh tonnes. He stated that yesterday (April 23, 2019), in a single day, 7.16 lakh tonnes of wheat had arrived in Punjab mandis and today more than 10 lakh tonnes is likely to arrive. He further stated that the government agencies have already lifted 3 lakh tonnes of wheat from the mandis and has already made the payment of Rs 258 crore to the farmers. Mr Pannu directed the procurement agencies to embark upon the task of hassle free purchase of produce and ensure timely lifting of stock and release of payments to farmers. He further stated that Punjab government is committed to procure every grain of wheat arriving in the mandis. He informed that 132 lakh tonnes of wheat is likely to arrive in mandis this year as against 127 lakh tonnes arrived last year.
