19th Livestock Census (Breed Survey) in state

Chandigarh, July 18, 2013: To provide better services to the livestock of the state, the Punjab Government is conducting 19th Livestock Census (Breed Survey). The Breed Survey will be conducted in 15% of the villages of all the districts of the State.

Speaking on the subject today, Animal Husbandry Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike said that the main objective of this Census is multipurpose development of livestock and to initiate the livestock owners to keep elite breeds of domestic animals so that their income may be raised. He further elaborated that formulation of future schemes for the development of dairy, piggery, sheep/goat and poultry mainly depends upon the Breed Survey Census.

He appealed to livestock owners to provide the correct information regarding their domestic animals to the authorised enumerator of the department so that this information may be useful for the developmental works of the livestock.

The Minister informed that for this purpose the livestock owners can get detailed information from Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry of their district or they can contact Joint Director, Animal Husbandry O/o Director Animal Husbandry, Punjab Chandigarh.
