1st edition of Surana and Surana National Environmental Law Moot based on theme ‘Water Pollution’


Chandigarh, April 7, 2018: University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh hosted its 1st edition of Surana and Surana National Environmental Law Moot based on the theme ‘Water Pollution’. The event embarked on 6th April, in the Moot Court hall in UILS with the auspicious PU anthem. THE DIRECTOR OF UILS, PROF. RATTAN SINGH addressed the students representing 24 law schools all over India, with 4 national law schools, and pressed on the importance of 'environmental law' and its need for implementation for a secure future for coming generations and wished every team luck which motivated the students. After the address Dr.S.Ravichandran, Advocate & Head, Academic Initiatives, Surana & Surana International Attorneys, Moot Court Coordinator introduced the concept of moot, the format and the rules. The event will continue till 8th of April which will have in total 5 rounds, with 2 preliminary rounds, 1 quarter finals for top 8 teams, 1 semi finals for top 4 teams, and finals for top 2 teams. The best team will take the prestigious trophy with a lucrative cash prize.
Day 2 of the event began with intense preliminary rounds, judged by eminent lawyers, and other accomplished alumni of UILS. 24 teams contested the moot case out of which 8 teams qualified for the quarter finals and they are Army Institute of Law, Galgotias University, Sastra University, College of Law and Governance Mody University, NLUJAA Assam, DSNLU Vizag, Symbiosis Pune and Dept of Laws Panjab University. They will now compete for qualifying into semi finals which will be held tomorrow that is 8th day of April, 2018
