1st SMK National Moot Court Brings Together the Nation's Top Legal Minds
In loving memory of S. Manjit Kaur, mother of Chairman of the CT Group, CT Institute of Law organized the 1st SMK National Moot Court Competition on 25th-26th April 2023.
Jalandhar, April 29, 2023: In loving memory of S. Manjit Kaur, mother of Chairman of the CT Group, CT Institute of Law organized the 1st SMK National Moot Court Competition on 25th-26th April 2023. The competition provided a platform for students to showcase their legal knowledge, skills, and competency. The moot court was open to students from all over the country and judged by some of the leading legal minds in the region. Participants were judged based on their legal arguments, research, presentation, and overall performance. The winners were awarded prestigious awards and certificates
The Moot Court proposition of the 1st SMK National Moot Court Competition was released a month ago along with the official brochure and detailed rule book. This was released on the Institute's website and other social media platforms.
The event's inaugural ceremony was held on 25 April 2023. The event was graced by chief guest Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, CJM cum Secretary DLSA, Adv. Mandeep Singh Sachdev, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Adv. Jatin Anand, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Adv. Aditya Jain, President District Bar Association, Jalandhar, Adv. Ravish Malhotra, Senior Vice President, District Bar Association, Jalandhar, Expert NDPS Act, Adv. Ravneet Singh, Adv. Shelly, Adv. Vinky, Adv. Reema Chand, Former Executive Member, Adv. Gundeep Singh Sodhi Executive Member, Adv. Deepak Thapar, Adv. Harsh Bhatt, Former Joint Secretary, Adv. Amit Jindal, Adv. Vivek Kapoor and Adv. Kiran Madan.
A total of 22 competing teams from different parts of the country attended the event. On 25 April 2023, preliminary rounds I and II of the competition were organized. In the quarter-finals, the zeal, passion, and credibility were overwhelming. A total of 22 teams from all over the country participated in the competition. A total of 15 judges judged the court proceedings in good faith. With the most talented 4 teams, the semi-finals took place on 26th April 2023. Participants began their arguments with zeal and eloquence. Judges indicated that the participants' arguments were exemplary and extended above and beyond duty.
The finale was judged by a bench of 5 judges consisting of Adv. Kiran Madan, Adv. Harleen Kaur, Adv. Ravish Malhotra, Adv. R. K. Bhalla and Adv. Aditya Jain. The final round took place between the Department of Laws, GNDU, Amritsar, and the University Institute of Legal Studies, PU, Regional Centre, Ludhiana.
The valedictory ceremony of the 1st SMK National Moot Court Competition was conducted after the finale on 26th April 2023. The event was graced by Harveen Bharadwaj, President of District Consumer Forum, Jalandhar and Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, CJM cum Secretary, DLSA. The chief guest began her address by appreciating the theme of the moot proposition. She jovially remarked that she was thankful to be spared from the herculean task of judging the moot competition. She said challenging moot problems, such as those given to contestants prepare law students to handle cases easily as they enter the legal profession. She also advised students to be prepared for the cases, be courteous and honest and continue to read textbooks.
Thereafter, the results were announced. University Institute of Legal Studies, PU, Regional Campus, Ludhiana was adjudged as the Best Team while the Department of Laws, GNDU, Amritsar was declared the runners-up. Best Memorial Award was awarded to Gurukashi University, Talwandi Sabo, Punjab. The students of the School of Law, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu, were awarded the title of Best Researcher, Dilnawaz Kaur of GNDU, Amritsar was presented with the title of Best Mooter.
Dr. Yugdeep Kaur, Principal of CTIL, delivered a vote of thanks. The competition came to a glorious end with paying respect to our motherland through the National Anthem.
