Samrala (Ludhiana), July 31, 2018: Punjab Forest Minister Mr.Sadhu Singh Dharamsot today said that with a view to make “Mission Tandrust Punjab” a grand success, the Punjab Forest Department will plant 2 crore saplings in different parts of the state this year. He said that in a bid to increase the green cover in the state, various others departments would also be roped in for this purpose. The Minister said this while addressing the gathering on the occasion of tree plantation drive being organised by Youth Congress leader Mr Karanvir Singh Dhillon on the Martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh at Samrala, today.

While speaking on the occasion after planting a tree sapling, the Forest Minister said that around 2 crore saplings would be planted in the areas under Public Works department with the help of non-government organisations, schools, colleges, universities, various government and private offices, Panchayats and municipal councils.

He also urged all the social organisations working in the state as well as the residents to come forward to save the environment. He said that all enthusiast and willing organisations will be roped in to work in tandem for plantation and conservation drive under Mission Tandrust Punjab. He said that people should voluntarily plant and take care of tree saplings and emphasised on planting maximum saplings across the state.

Emphasising on the need to protect tree saplings after plantation, he said that mere planting a tree sapling isn’t enough but we should ensure that a sapling blooms into a tree.

Mr Dharamsot said that the i-Hariyali app launched by the Punjab Government to ensure clean and green environment to the people of the state as well as increase the green cover, has got massive response across the state. He also said that under the Ghar Ghar Hariyali scheme, free saplings are being provided throughout Punjab. He further said that through i-Hariyali app, the forest department has provided the facility to the people of making the bookings with regard to the choice of saplings sitting at home with just a click. He said that till date, lakhs of tree saplings have been supplied by the Forest Department ever since the mobile app was launched on June 5, 2018.

He said that the Ghar Ghar Hariyali scheme is a segment of the Mission Tandrust Punjab.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Senior Congress leader Mr Kanwaljit Singh Dhillon, Punjab Youth Congress president Mr Amarpreet Singh Laali, SSP Khanna Mr Dhruv Dahiya, Mr Kasturi Lal Mintu, Mr Sohan Lal Sherpuri, Mr Surinder Kundra, besides several others.
