2022 Assembly Elections-DC directs officials to identify vulnerable polling stations
Holds meeting with senior civil and police administration officials at Bachat Bhawan, here today
Ludhiana, November 30, 2021: In view of the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections, District Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today held a meeting with senior district administration and police officials of district Ludhiana. This meeting was also attended by Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, SSP Ludhiana (Rural) Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu, SSP Khanna Gursharandeep Singh Grewal, ADC (General)-cum-Additional District Electoral Officer Rahul Chaba, besides several others.
During the meeting, Varinder Kumar Sharma told the officials that for ensuring free and fair polling during ensuing Assembly elections, all of them should pull up their socks and complete the process of vulnerability mapping well in advance before the imposition of model code of conduct.
He asked the police department to prepare the lists of bad characters after holding the meetings with local Assistant Commissioners of Police/Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Station House Officers (SHOs). Besides the reports about parole jumpers, history-sheeters, bail jumpers, trouble mongers and others must also be prepared so that close vigil can be kept on their activities. Further, work related to details about arms/weapons which would be deposited before elections, expenditure sensitive constituencies and others should properly taken care of. He said that status of pendency of FIRs registered during the previous Assembly Elections 2017 and Lok Sabha Elections 2019 should also be prepared.
Sharma also told the police department the formal orders regarding submitting of weapons would be issued today and as per the updated lists of the weapon holders, they should be asked to submit the weapons once the code comes into force.
The Deputy Commissioner- cum- District Election Officer also ordered the officials to form the joint teams of various departments to keep a check in their areas during the elections. Sharma told the AROs to send the lists of counting centres so that entire information must be forwarded to the Election Commission.
He also took strong notice of absence of some of the senior officials in the meeting and also directed Rahul Chaba to take necessary action against such officials.
