Ludhiana, January 11, 2013: Malwa Sabhyacharak Manch Punjab enthusiastically organised 20th Lohri Mela of Girls here today.
The event was dedicated to the Nation’s brave daughter Damini.
The Manch’s chairman Krishan Kumar Bawa, president Pawan Dewan, patrons Jagdev Singh Jassowal, Surinder Singh Kooner, Malkit Singh Dakhar, Ghanshyam Lotey, convener Ravinder Ranguwal, Nirmal Kaida, vice chairman Ashok Makkar and Leena Taparia and general secretary Chaman Lal Batra, Neelam Kohli and Jarnail Singh Toor honoured progressive women working in different spheres.
Sandeep Rayait was awarded with “Shri Satpaul Mittal Udyog Putri Purskar”, Satwinder Bitti “Jagmohan kaur Yaadgari Sangeet Purskar”, Sarabjit Kaur Kokewali “Noorjahan Yaadgari Sur Shahzadi Purskar” and Hairatjeet Kaur was awarded with “Damini Yaadgari Puskar”. These women were given pure gold medals alongwith the awards.
Kuldeep Jodha, brother of singer and film artist Diljeet Dosanjh with whose initiative Sanjh Foundation, a social welfare organisation, was constituted, 21 new born female babies were honoured with FDR of Rs. 5,100 each, clothes and suits. The babies honoured were; Sapna, Parneet kaur, Sukhmanpreet kaur, Sunaina, Manit, Sunakshi, Manpreet kaur, Kirti, Divya Kohli, Vanika, Ridhi, Harpreet Kaur, Simarpreet Kaur, Jaipreet Kaur, Srishti, Harleen kaur, Ritika, Puja, Anjali, Jiya and Heena.
Prachi formally announced to declare open singing programme on the occasion.
Bawa and Dewan said that the purpose of organising the event was to bridge a gap of difference between a girl and a boy. They said even Guru Nanak Dev have preached that due respect be given to women.
Punjabi singer Pali Detwalia sung an emotional song against the menace of female foeticide. Sarabjit Kokewali also sung famous “Koka” and enthralled the audience. She also sung a “ghori”.
Satwinder Bitti also mesmerised with her singing.
Singers Faquir Chand Patanga and Dilpreet Kaur also gave their performance of singing.
Among others, Sarabjit Cheema, Labh Janjua, Sukhwinder Sukhi, Ravinder Grewal, Baljit Malwa, Manjit Rupowalia, Jaswant Sandeela, Rajinder Malhar and Mandeep Gill and performed. Kuldip Manak’s son Yudhvir Manak also sung song.
Comedians Gurdas Kaida and Trinjhan Jago Group also performed.
The event was attended from India and abroad, including Preeti Lamba for MP from Canada and UK Mayor Pritam Grewal.
