The 22nd Annual Athletics Meet held at DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology Jalandhar was a vibrant celebration of athleticism and sportsmanship, leaving a lasting impact on participants and spectators alike. The aim of organizing the Sports Day was to provide a platform for students to showcase their athletic talents, promote physical fitness, and foster a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among participants. Susheel Kumar Rinku, Member Parliament (MP) Jalandhar was the Chief Guest and Ajay Goswami, Secretary DAVCMC, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour.
Jalandhar, February 29, 2024: The 22nd Annual Athletics Meet held at DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology Jalandhar was a vibrant celebration of athleticism and sportsmanship, leaving a lasting impact on participants and spectators alike. The aim of organizing the Sports Day was to provide a platform for students to showcase their athletic talents, promote physical fitness, and foster a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among participants. Susheel Kumar Rinku, Member Parliament (MP) Jalandhar was the Chief Guest and Ajay Goswami, Secretary DAVCMC, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour.
In his blessings, Susheel Kumar Rinku, spoke of the lives of athletes and their daily grind to achieve their targets on the field. The early mornings spent training, the setbacks they encounter, and the moments of triumph that fueled their passion for sports further. Sh. Rinku's words resonated deeply with the athletes, who could relate to the highs and lows of pursuing athletic excellence. Praising the athletes for their dedication, Sh. Rinku emphasized the significance of sports in shaping character and fostering a healthy lifestyle. He spoke of the discipline and perseverance required to succeed in sports, noting that these qualities transcend the playing field and are valuable in all aspects of life. Furthermore, Mr. Rinku reiterated his commitment to creating opportunities for all, regardless of background or circumstance. He shared that he being the alumnus of DAV College Jalandhar understands the contribution of Swami Dayanand Saraswati and Arya Samaj in spreading value-based quality education. He spoke passionately about DAVIET’s commitment to the cause of spreading sports awareness and honing the overall personality of the students.
In his address, Dr. Sanjeev Naval, Principal DAVIET welcomed the chief guest Sushil Kumar Rinku and the guest of honour Ajay Goswami. He also acknowledged the presence of Dr. Kashmiri Lal, Physician, BSF, Dr. Aditya, Epidemiologist and Dr. Harsh Dalia. Dr. Naval commended Susheel Rinku's unwavering commitment to both sports and public service. He acknowledged Rinku's tireless efforts in supporting initiatives that promote sports at the grassroots level. Further, Dr Naval spoke eloquently about the transformative power of sports in shaping the character of individuals. He emphasized that beyond the medals and victories, the true essence of athletics lies in the values it instills – discipline, perseverance, and the ability to overcome challenges. Dr. Naval underlined the significance of sports as a tool for character building, shaping individuals into well-rounded and resilient members of society. Further Dr. Naval welcomed the female lead Ms Japji Khera and the crew of the upcoming Punjabi movie Blackia 2 to the DAVIET Campus on Sports Day. The excitement was writ large on the face of every student as the enthusiasm of the sports day doubled owing to the interaction with the extremely popular Ms. Japji and the crew of the movie. Dr Naval stated that quality cinema always reflects society and highlights the need of corrective action. He wished them luck for the success of the movie. Dr. Naval also expressed his gratitude towards Vaibhav for coordinating the entire event. Dr. Naval also acknowledged the hard work put in by the sports department headed by Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, President Sports for organising a successful Sports Day.
The Athletics Meet unfolded with a series of thrilling events, including sprints, relays, long jumps, and more. The air was filled with excitement as participants pushed their limits, showcasing their skills and determination. Each race, jump, and throw was met with thunderous applause from the enthusiastic audience, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and support. Athletes from various disciplines displayed exemplary sportsmanship, with moments of fierce competition balanced by gestures of camaraderie and respect. The students were divided into four houses namely Anjaney, Pandva, Drona and Airavat. The March Past, a highlight of the event, showcased the unity and discipline of the participating teams, with the Chief Guest Mr. Rinku taking the salute amidst cheers and applause. Drona House won the March Past trophy. The Best Athletes were Mr. Ranish from the Department of Computer Applications (BCA) and Yashika from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering respectively (ECE 3rd Year). The overall winner was Pandva House.
As the sun set on the day's events, it was evident that the 22nd Annual Athletics Meet had been a resounding success. Beyond the medals and accolades, it was a day of personal triumphs, where participants challenged themselves and celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship.
