25 Jammu-based farmers visit Pau for skill expansion
With the emergence of floriculture and organic cultivation as lucrative ventures, a delegation of 25 farmers and agriculture officials from village Dansal of district Jammu visited the Skill Development Centre at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to expand their skills on the cultivation of spice, aromatic and medicinal plants as well as the residue-free production of various crops. The five-day training course was held under the guidance of Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education.
Ludhiana, March 26, 2024: With the emergence of floriculture and organic cultivation as lucrative ventures, a delegation of 25 farmers and agriculture officials from village Dansal of district Jammu visited the Skill Development Centre at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to expand their skills on the cultivation of spice, aromatic and medicinal plants as well as the residue-free production of various crops. The five-day training course was held under the guidance of Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education.
While interacting with the delegation, Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development), observed that fostering innovations in agriculture and horticulture was revolutionizing as well as modernizing the farming and allied auxiliary enterprises. The University was keeping itself in touch with the latest trends, the recent ones being the establishment of the AccelBreed facility for the cutting-edge speed breeding; and the Spring garden comprising the cultivation of exotic flowers like tulip, daffodils, etc., she told. Apart from Punjab farmers, a heavy rush of farmers and agri-officials from adjoining states was being witnessed at PAU for skill-honing in agriculture, horticulture and subsidiary occupations, she informed.
Dr Lavleesh Garg, Extension Scientist, shared that Jammu-based farmers and officials visited floriculture farm, Herbal garden and Integrated Farming System unit at agri-varsity to learn revolutionary technologies for additional income generation.
Experts Kuldeep Kaur and Kanwaljit Kaur provided hands-on-demonstrations on the preparation of mushroom-based delicious recipes.
Dr Prerna Kapila, Course Coordinator, proposed a vote of thanks.
The Director of School of Organic Farming Dr SS Walia; Head of Department of Processing and Food Engineering Dr TC Mittal; and experts, namely Dr Rajendra Kumar, Dr Varjinder Kalia, Dr AS Sidhu, Dr Simrat Singh, Dr Nilesh Biwalkar and Dr Khushdeep Dharni focused on organic farming practices, agro-processing techniques, successful cultivation of various flower crops, and profitable marketing of agri-produce.
