Hoshiarpur/Jalandhar, July 26, 2013: Punjab Government to establish 280 new deep tubewells in the Kandi area of the state out of which 171 would be installed in the the district Hoshiarpur.

Disclosing this at Hoshiarpur today, Sohan Singh Thandal Chief Parliamentary Secretary said that Rs 70.23 Crore would be spent on setting up 96 tubewells in Kandi Area and 75 in those non kandi areas of the district Hoshiarpur where there is more scarcity of water.

CPS said that work of installing 102 tubewells is completed out of which 38 are installed in kandi area and 66 non kandi area. He said that work of installing 69 tubewells is in progress. He added that 21375 acre baron land is brought under irrigation cover for cultivation.

Thandal said that earlier 7 out of order tubewells were replaced with new ones with the cost of Rs 220 Lac and providing irrigation facility to 1050 Acres. He further said that to provide irrigation facility to 1250 Acres in block Talwara 10 more tubewells are being installed with cost of Rs 700 Lac and first instalment of Rs 200 lac has been released for this.

Chief parliamentary Secretary said that additional pipes are being laid for the 40 tubewells in Dasua and 17 in Mukerian under 15 % quota which would cost 86.57 lac. He said that work for 7 pipe lines have been completed and remaining would be completed soon. Likewise pipe line work for 27 tubewells is in progress which would cost Rs 1.19 Crore.

He said that already 425 deep tubewells are working in the district with which 52000 Acre area is being irrigated in the Kandi area of the district Hoshiarpur.
