Jalandhar, November 9, 2016: On the second day of the 7th 5-day INSPIRE-Camp at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, Dr.Vandana Bhalla (Department of Chemistry, GNDU, Amritsar) delivered a discourse on ‘From Molecular Chemistry to Supermolecular Chemistry and Molecular Machines’. She explained in detail the meaning and importance of chemistry. She said that chemistry is a way of thinking a creativity. It has its own alphabetic symbols and vocabulary. She talked about renowned scientists and their significant contribution in the field. Dr. Bhalla explained in detail the concept of supramolecular chemistry. She concluded by saying that one can create geared molecules which can be moved in a given direction with the help of stimulator.
Dr. D.K. Khurana (Asso. Prof. Panjab University, Chandigarh) delivered a valuable talk on ‘There are indefinitely many Infinities’. He talked about real, rational numbers which are infinite. He told the students that the real numbers between 0 and 1 are not countable. He talked about the success stories of great mathematicians and spoke at length about the importance and application of maths in daily life. Later in the day a chemistry workshop was conducted by Dr. Updesh Kaur and Dr. Manju Sahni. In this workshop various activities like Chemical rainbow, magical fire, chemical clock, chemical volcano, elephants toothpaste, colour chameleon, chemical jugglery, fun with balloon, jugnu warms, smoke without fire etc. were organized for the students. Mrs. Veena Deepak (Head, Dept. of Mathematics) threw light on Applications of Mathematics in daily life. She also explained Golden Ratio, Mahts, Museum, Ramanujan number and square etc. to the students. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi extended her gratitude towards the guest speakers for providing such detail information to the students.
