The second day of 6th international conference on nutraceuticals, chronic diseases and cancer research organised by Panjab University, withnessed a detailed discussion with Prof Oommen V Oommen. He is secretary of society for nutraceuticals and chronic diseases (SNCD) and former chairman of state board of biodiversity, Kerala.
Chandigarh, February 23, 2024: The second day of 6th international conference on nutraceuticals, chronic diseases and cancer research organised by Panjab University, withnessed a detailed discussion with Prof Oommen V Oommen. He is secretary of society for nutraceuticals and chronic diseases (SNCD) and former chairman of state board of biodiversity, Kerala.
He explained that Nutraceuticals cover the plant based drugs and medicines, made out of stems, roots, leaves, and other aspects of nature. Curcumin found in turmeric is a fine example, which is used for its anticeptic, anti-inflammatory and healing properties.
The theme of the conference is, basic science to clinical application, which reflects that science and technology are inter-related phenomenas. These events create awareness among general public about technological advancements in research, which further accelerates the application of science in prevention and cure of chronic diseases.
While elaborating the impact of biodiversity on human livelihood, he stated that Man induced climate change is a major concern for today's world. The western ghats of our country, which are lungs for the South, are losing their natural capacity with the passage of time. Nature bestowes us with food, air and water, and as a result of tampering with the nature, the monsoon cycle is disrupted. Soon, the time would come, humans will be in need of mandatory air purifiers for breathing, due to poor air quality.
