3-Day Training Workshop Concluded On Menstrual Hygiene Management at PU

Chandigarh, August 8, 2018: A three days training programme on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) concluded at Panjab University today which was organised by NSS Panjab University in collaboration with Centre for Social Work and an International agency called as Water Supply Sanitation Collaborative Council, New Delhi. The training programme was organised from August 6th to 8th, 2018 at Centre for Social Work at Panjab University campus and attended by 55 NSS volunteers. During the training programme various different techniques were used to demystify the myths associated with MHM like videos, role plays and volunteers were asked to do group work also. The training focused on breaking the silence on the issue of Menstrual Hygiene, talking about the correct practices, fighting against taboos and myths related to MHM, making informed choices about Menstrual Hygiene Management. The workshop laid stress on the issues related to gender in context to it. A special session was conducted for sharing the correct ways of disposing the used materials like sanitary pads etc. It was inaugurated by Ms. Santosh Sharma, Director, Social Welfare Board, Chandigarh. She shared the importance of organizing such training programmes for the younger generations. Dr Navdeep Sharma, Programme Co-ordinator, NSS, Panjab University while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of such programmes and emphasized on more male participation in such events. The NSS volunteers were also told on how to use news clips and media campaigns for such issues. The training team was lead by Dr Gaurav Gaur, Assistant Professor at Centre for Social Work and Dr Anupam Bahri, Assistant Professor at University Institute for Legal Studies along with five students namely Sandeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Himadri Sharma, Vishaka Sharma and Komaljeet Kaur. In this training programme students from various departments like Department of Zoology, Defence Studies, Sociology, Public Administration, Dental College, UILS and some from Regional Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh joined and successfully completed the training programme. Dr Vijayta Chadha from Chairman, Department of Nuclear Medicine and Dr Upneet from Centre for Human Rights and Duties also shared their views and interacted with students and broke the myths associated with MHM.
