3,000 PU students, teachers, alumni and their family members to participate in International Yoga Day Celebration

Chandigarh, June 18, 2016: As many as three thousand Panjab University (PU) students, teachers, alumni and their family members would participate in the International Yoga Day Celebration in Chandigarh on June 21, 2016.
Out of these, one thousand participants would participate at the allocated block at Chandigarh Capital Complex with Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi; one thousand participants would be on reserve and one thousand other participants would do yoga at PU Cricket Ground on June 21.
The PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover today reviewed the PU and its affiliated colleges’ preparations for the International Yoga Day Celebrations. Registrar Col GS Chadha (Retd) and team leaders of different teams participated in the meeting held at Cricket Ground after the morning yoga camp. As many as 1,782 Yoga participants participated in the morning yoga camp at the PU Cricket Ground. Out of these, 926 were male and 856 were female. PU is organizing six Yoga training camps daily and more than two thousand participants are attending it regularly.
Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Prof Navdeep Goyal informed that PU is organizing yoga camp on June 21 at PU Cricket Ground for those participants, who got registered for the capital complex celebrations but have not been issued the ID card. Large number of participants from PU Campus, DAV colleges and other affiliated colleges would participate in the morning yoga camp being conducted from 7 to 8 AM on June 21, he added.
PU has formed two groups of 1,000 participants each. Each Group will be further divided into 20 teams of 50 members each, which would be led by a team leader. DSW Prof Navdeep Goyal and Honorary Director Centre for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Dr Harish would lead the first team and Director Sports Dr Parminder would lead the second group of 1,000 participants.
