31 nomination papers on last day of filing nominations; total number of nominations reaches 70   

As many as 31 nominations were submitted with the District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sawhney on the last day of filing nominations on Tuesday. With this, the total number of nominations submitted for the Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency has reached 70.

Ludhiana, May 14, 2024: As many as 31 nominations were submitted with the District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sawhney on the last day of filing nominations on Tuesday. With this, the total number of nominations submitted for the Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency has reached 70.

Along with DEO Sawhney, General Observer Divya Mittal IAS was also present while the nominations were filed by candidates on Tuesday.   

The candidates who have submitted the nominations on Tuesday include Chandi (Independent), Kuldeep Kumar Sharma from Shiv Sena Shinde, Karnail Singh (Independent), Ajitpal Singh (Independent), Shivam Yadav from Global Republican Party, Amritpal Singh from Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Rakesh Kumar from Sunehra Bharat Party, Meenu Prashar from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rupinder Kumar (Independent), Baldev Singh (Independent), Bhupinder Singh from Bharatheeya Jawan Kisan Party, Rajiv Kumar from Jan Sewa Driver Party, Baljit Singh (Independent), Nand Lal Singh from Bhartiya Manav Adhikar Party, Anupama from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted two sets of nominations, Ravneet Singh Bittu from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted two sets of nominations, Sudhir Kumar Tripathi (Independent), Paramjit Singh (Independent), Gursewak Singh from Sarvjan Sewa Party, Kaniya Lal (Independent), Gurdeep Singh Kahlon (Independent), Jagir Singh from Loktantrik Lok Rajyam Party submitted two sets of nominations, Kamal Pawar (Independent), Darshan Singh from Nationalist Justice Party, Lakhvir Singh from Peoples Party of India, Rajiv Kumar from Jan Sewa Driver Party, Rachana Verma (Independent) and Shubkiran Pal Kaur Brar from Aam Janta Party India.                                

While submitting nominations, the candidates also took the pledge to abide by the constitution of India, uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India and follow the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India.

The total number of nominations submitted for the Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency has now reached 70, of which 30 have been filed by independent candidates. 

It is pertinent here to mention that no nomination was filed on the first day of nomination on May 7, while three nominations were filed on the second day. Bhupinder Singh from Bharatheeya Jawan Kisan Party, Vipan Kumar (Independent) and Baldev Raj Katna (Independent) filed the nominations on the second day (May 8). 

Similarly, five candidates filed their nominations on the third day on May 9 (Thursday). These included Devinder Singh from Aam Lok Party United, Gursewak Singh from Sarvjan Sewa Party and Jai Parkash Jain, Simrandeep Singh and Ravinder Pal Singh as independent candidates. 

Twelve nominations were filed on Friday including Harwinder Kaur from Samajik Sangharsh Party, Ravneet Singh Bittu from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Santosh Kumar from Bhartiya Inqalab Party, Naresh Kumar Dhingan (Independent), Karan Dhingan (Independent), Lakhvir Singh (Independent), Bhola Singh (Independent), Vishal Kumar Arora (Independent), Balwinder Singh (Independent), Amandeep Singh from Sehajdhari Sikh Party, Davinder Singh from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Jaswinder Kaur from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).  

Nineteen nominations were submitted with the DEO on Monday including those submitted by Rajinder Ghai (Independent), Kirpal Singh (Independent), Ranjit Singh Dhillon from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Ninderjit Kaur (SAD), Simardeep Singh (Independent), Amrinder Singh Raja Warring from Indian National Congress (INC), Amrita Warring (INC), Pritpal Singh from Bahujan Dravida Party, Ashok Prashar Pappi from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) filed four sets of nominations, Meenu Prashar (AAP), Gurmeet Singh Kharay (Independent), Devinder Bhagria from Hindustan Shakti Sena, Bhupinder Singh from Bharatheeya Jawan Kisan Party, Kamaljit Singh Brar (Independent), Palwinder Kaur (Independent) and Sanjeev Kumar (Independent).                       

Further, 31 nomination papers were submitted today. 

DEO Sawhney stated that the Gazette notification for the general elections was issued on Tuesday (May 7). Nomination papers could be filed till May 14, 2024 (except public holidays), and the scrutiny of nominations will take place on May 15, 2024 (Wednesday). Candidates can withdraw their nominations till May 17, 2024 (Friday).  

The polling day is scheduled for June 1, 2024 (Saturday) in Punjab. The polling hours are from 7 AM to 6 PM. The counting of votes would take place on June 4, 2024 (Tuesday) across the country, including Punjab. The final date for the completion of elections is June 6, 2024 (Thursday).
