Dharamsala, July 25, 2013: “Himachal is all set to launch food security programme in the state from August 20 in accordance with the birthday of Rajeev Gandhi. The place from where CM Virbhadra Singh shall start it is yet to be decided,” said Food Minister of Himachal Pradesh, GS Bali in Dharamsala on Thursday.

Addressing the media persons here today, Bali said that around 32 lakh people of the state shall be benefited by this fully central government aided scheme. “According to Govt of India guidelines, a maximum of 75 % residents of rural and 50% of urban can come under this programme,” said the minister.

He said that all families placed under BPL and Antoday are being covered under Food Security, beside it some categories like single lady, totally ill person and poorest of poor will also get this benefit in Himachal.

Bali said that the Himachal Government’s programme to provide subsidiary food of 3 cereals, oil and salt for others shall continue. He said, “As soon as the rationed sugar is received from the Centre, it shall be distributed to all covering the back log of 3-4 months too.”

According to this programme the 32 lakh people of state will get wheat @ Rs. 1 kg, and rice @ Rs. 3 kg.
