3rd DAV National Science Congress Concludes

Jalandhar, May 21, 2016: The 3rd DAV National Science Congress on Science, Technology, Engineering, Humanities and Management concluded here today at DAVIET Campus. The major thrust areas of the Congress were Make in India, Digital India, Skill India and Smart City with the aim to promote research in the related fields so as to transform India into a knowledge economy.
The Chief Guest of the valedictory function was Dr. Ajay Sharma, Director, NIT, New Delhi. In his address he appreciated the initiative taken by DAVIET to promote quality research in diverse fields. He also applauded the vision of the organizers for arranging a Congress with a inter disciplinary approach. He highlighted that a monolithic approach to solve the problems of life can never suffice. He also highlighted the need for penetration of technology in higher education Institutions so that students can have access to any time anywhere learning module.
Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal DAVIET, in his address highlighted the importance of digitalizing India as a whole. He stated that the divide between the developed urban centers and semi developed and underdeveloped rural centers can be bridged by providing digitalized e- governance services to all the citizens. He also brought to light the fact that the Government of India has taken up the initiative to educate people about the services that can be availed through Digital India. He shed light on the fact that India needs to improve elementary education to move ahead in the digital era. He also shared with all present that the Institution is going to establish a Centre for Academic Excellence and Digital Learning to suit learning paradigms of new generation. He stated that such initiatives become important as the demand for online education learning in k12 segment is on the rise technology needs to step in to support the new ways of learning. He highlighted that STEHM 16 has been a phenomenal success. Over 400 delegates registered for this 2 day intellectual extravaganza and around 250 papers were presented across 9 tracks.
The highlight of the day was a Panel Discussion on the topic, “ Leveraging Technology for Smart and Digital India.” The panelist of the day were Mr. Nilesh Mantri, Deputy Group Manager, IBM, Mr. Ibadat Singh, Vice president- Operations, Datawind, Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director NIT Delhi, Ms. Aastha Sayal, Mr. Dinkar Adhlakha, Vice President Government and PSU Dr. Juhani Niemenin, Senior Advisor, Lathi University of Applied Sciences, Finland. Dr. Manoj Kumar, principal DAVIET was the session Moderator. The discussion focused on how Digital India can be a stepping Stone for Smart Cities and the need to digitalize services and to move towards Internet of Everything. Further it was deliberated how quality education can help build smart cities. It was also highlighted by the panelists that there is a constant need to update the skill set that we have today as they might be outdated tomorrow. The panel discussion concluded that by integrating initiatives like Make in India, Digital India, Skill India with Smart Cities, the future belongs to Indians.
