45th Annual Sports Prize Distribution function of GNDU

Amritsar, April 14, 2015: At the 45th Annual Sports Prize Distribution Function  for the year 2014-15 of the Guru Nanak Dev University, over 400 outstanding players including 225 women who brought laurels to the University in various sports disciplines at the International, National and All India Inter-Varsity levels were honored here on Monday with cash prizes worth Rs. 50 lakhs and trophies.

Prof. A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor presided over and Padmashri Ajit Pal Singh, eminent Indian Hockey Player was the chief guest and presented prizes to the winners. Abhishek Verma, Arjuna Awardee (Archery) was guest of honour. Dr. H.S. Randhawa, Deputy Director, Sports and Head read out the Annual Sports Achievements Report and said that in this year university players got 11 golden, 3 silver and one bronze medals in international sports.

Dr. Mehal Singh, President, GND University Sports Committee (men) and Principal, Khalsa College, Amritsar welcomed the chief guests and others. Dr. Sukhbir Kaur Mahal, President, GND University Sports Committee (women) and Principal, Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar presented vote of thanks. Prof. A.S. Sidhu, Dean, Student’s Welfare of the University and other officials of the University and coaches were also present at this occasion.

In this function, the All India Inter-University winners were honored with Rs. 12000 each, second position holder got Rs 10000 and Rs. 8000 each was awarded to third position holders. The International level players (first positions) were honored with cash prize of Rs. 25000 each, second position holder got Rs20000 and Rs. 15000 each was awarded to third position holders and for forth positions Rs. 5000.

Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar lifted the Guru Nanak Dev University Inter-College 'A' Division Overall General Championship Trophy (Men) while DAV College, Amritsar remained runners-up. In Men category in 'B' Division GGS Khalsa College, Sarhail was Winner and Khalsa College Physical Education, Heir was Runners-up.

In Women Section, BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar lifted the GND University Inter-College 'A' Division Overall General Championship Trophy while HMV, Jalandhar remained runners-up.In 'B' Division SDSPM (W) College Rayya was Winner and Khalsa College, Amritsar was Runners-up in women category.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Overall Championship Trophy for the Year 2013-14 alongwith cash prize of Rs. 52000 went to BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar and DAV College, Amritsar finished second.

During 2014-15 year, 10 Men and Women players participated in International sports In various disciplines in the All India Inter-University Competitions University 10 men and women teams got first positions, 7 teams remained second positions, 4 teams in third positions and 5 teams got fifth positions.
