4th and Final day of Junior World Congress at CMC
Ludhiana, April 8, 2019:The final day of the Junior World Congress started with the Stroke and Neurology workshop - Cephalique conducted by the renowned Dr Peter Sandercock from the University of Edinburgh, Member of the Board of Directors, World Stroke Organisation. Dr Sandercock has been a pioneer in the field of neurology and his work on Stroke has been lauded by neurologists worldwide. Dr Sandercock covered clinical signs and symptoms of stroke. Along with Dr Peter were present Dr Jeyaraj D Pandian, Vice President of World Stroke Organisation, Professor of the Department of Neurology and Principal, CMC. Dr Pandian discussed about basic clinical approach to neurological examination. Stroke thrombolysis was elaborated by Dr Mahesh Kate, Dr Rajeswar, and Dr Anirudh Kulkarni. Dr Ivy Sebastian explained to the students about various epilepsies and seizures. Dr Vineeth Jaison stressed the importance of knowing about Neuromuscular diseases. The workshop was focussed on teaching students the basics of EEG, nerve conduction studies and a hands on training was given on Simulator Thrombolysis. A hands-on workshop on Nephrology was also conducted named Renalssance. The workshop was conducted by Dr Sajeev Cherian (Director, NT Renal Services, Australia). Dr Cherian has been engaged in Indigenous health for the last 15 years in rural and remote Central Australia. Other dignitories included Dr Santosh Varghese (Professor and Head, Department of Nephrology, CMC, Vellore), Dr Ana Valsan (Consultant Nephrologist at CMC Vellore) and Dr Manmeet Singh (Consultant Nephrologist, Amritsar). Faculty from CMC involved were Dr Timothy (Professor and Head, Department of Nephrology), Dr Lydia, Dr Chris and Dr Jasmine The workshop was aimed at providing budding doctors a hands on experience of Hemodialysis and Peritoneal dialysis. Students were also demonstrated Renal biopsy. The most awaited part of the day was the finale of Nerdopedia - the Master Quiz. The winner of the same were awarded with cash prizes. Many other academic events were conducted throughout the day the winners of which received free 6 months subscription to the famed medical app Marrow. The 5 day long conference concluded with its closing ceremony and valedictory, furnishing the young minds with the right set of knowledge to combat the rising burden of Non- Communicable Diseases. Dr Jeyaraj Pandian, Principal Christian Medical College, Ludhiana said that NCDs are preventable with awareness and early intervention. Students from all over the world will benefit from this great initiative. He also congratulated the organizing committee for the success of the Congress.
