Hyderabad, July 26, 2019: If an event could go down to the wire the Monsoon Regatta Sailing Team Racing Championship had one of the most thrilling finishes in the history of Sailing where the winners were decided in a tie breaker to the last nano second .

Nobody knew till the Race Officer Naveen Kumar announced the winner on the radio.

The four finalists were Trishna Sailing Club(TSC), Bangalore, NSS Bhopal , Yacht Club of Hyderabad(YCH) and NSS Bhopal Junior.

The semis went through with TSC and NSS Bhopal sailing into the finals beating NSS Junior and YCH with 2 wins each .

The finals were 5 race ordeal with winds raging to 18 knots at times and calming down to as low as 7 knots testing the sailors boat handling and tactical strengths to the maximum.

Trishna Sailing Club led by Vijay Kumar won the first two races and NSS Bhopal won the next two and the finals had TSC and NSS alternating top position across a short 15 minute finals and all 8 sailors bunched together at the finish line playing the rules against each other and a last minute penalty call by Uma Chauhan knocked TSC out of the reckoning to have NSS grab Gold

In the Petit finals the all girls team from the Yacht Club of Hyderabad led by Preethi Kongara beat NSS Bhopal Junior 2 wins to 1 to clinch the Bronze medal.

“I have not seen such a tight finish since the World Military Games trials at Hyderabad where the Army trounced the Navy in these very waters “, said Suheim Sheikh President of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad.

The prize giving was instantly held and Lt.Gen KS Rao, presided alongside International Jury Chief Mark Pryke from Australia and The GM of Marriott Hyderabad Mr.Sudeep Sharma who gave away the prizes.

"The Telangana Sailing Association is very proud to have conducted this event after a long gap of 15 years and help bring the magic of team racing back on the waters of India", said Lt.Gen KS Rao , President of the Telangana Sailing Association .

The Monsoon Regatta continues tomorrow onwards with the Fleet Racing and with 6 more races to go it could be anybody who wins but the favourites are still Preethi Kongara and Vijay Kumar heading for the Title
