Dharamsala, October 3, 2014: Dawa Dema (22), Jyoti Dogra (22), Kuenzang Choden (23), Priyanka Dogra (24) and Shikha Sharma (20) are to compete for The Miss Himalaya 2014 pageant.
Organised by Lobsang Wangyal Productions, the inaugural Miss Himalaya Pageant was held in October, 2012. Today, the five contestants participated in a photo shoot held during the introduction round at Mcleodganj Town, near here.
Wangyal said the competition rounds included Talk and Talent rounds begin on October 4. These rounds are to be held at Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) and the finale would be held at TIPA Grounds on October 5. He said there would be three rounds, which include Introduction, Traditional Costume, and Interview Rounds, followed by crowning of the winner and the presentation of cheques.
Further, Wangyal said winner of the Miss Himalaya 2014 pageant would be given a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, adding runners up would be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
Speaking about the aim of holding the event, he said it is aimed at providing a platform for young women from the entire Himalayan region (Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, hilly regions of Assam & West Bengal as well Bhutan and Nepal), with a view to promote identity, culture and contribute towards sensitising and preserving a fragile Himalayan environment.
Of the participants, Dawa Dema is from Thimphu, Bhutan. She is pursuing a course at Institute of Technology and Future Management Trends (ITFT) College, Chandigarh. Jyoti Dogra is from Bhagsu Nag, and she is currently pursuing her MSc in Environmental Sciences at Central University in Shapur. Kuenzang Choden hails from Thimphu, Bhutan and she is a final year student at Institute of Technology and Future Management Trends (ITFT) College, Chandigarh. Priyanka Dogra is from Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh and she did MSc in IT and presently, she is working with a private company. Shikha Sharma belongs to Dharamsala and she is doing BA.
