50 people attend health sessions on back pain
Chandigarh: As many as 50 people attend the health sessions in 5 batches of 10 people each on ‘Freedom from Pain’ at Amcare Hospital, Zirakpur on Friday.
During sessions, Dr Anil Sofat, neurosurgeon at Amcare Hospital, delivered a talk on how to manage low back pain before it gets worse.
He stated that occurrence of low back pain is alarming with nearly 80% of the people in India having suffered from low back pain at some time during their lifespan. One of the best ways to prevent back pain is to keep your back muscles strong.
Talking about the steps to help protect back and prevent back pain , he informed that one should do back-strengthening and stretching exercises at least 2 days a week. Stand and sit up straight and avoid heavy lifting. If you do lift something heavy, bend your knees and keep your back straight. This way, your leg muscles will do most of the work.
He further informed that get active and eat healthy. Being overweight can strain your back. Getting active regular physical activity and eating choosing healthy foods can help you stay at a healthy weight.
Dr Sofat, also stated that special attention should be given to the education of housewives in terms of low back protection, healthy nutrition, and family planning. It is important to take comprehensive preventive measures to address a range of work and life conditions that can be improved to decrease the incidence of low back pain.
Meanwhile during sessions, Amcare’s physiotherapist also took a session on exercise for all ages to prevent low back strain.
