Rajpura, Nabha, Samana, Patran and Sanour Municipal Council elections to get 50 percent seats for women candidates
Patiala: Mrs. Preneet Kaur, Member Lok Sabha from Patiala said that the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh had taken a historic decision to give 50 percent reservation to the women of the state in local body and panchayat elections to give equal rights to half the population.

isclosing this here today Mrs. Preneet Kaur said that notification has been issued by the government to elect 50 percent women in the forthcoming elections of Patiala District Municipal Councils of Rajpura, Sanour, Nabha, Samana and Patran. She said that 50 percent seats would be given to women whenever these elections are held.
The Member of Lok Sabha said that during the previous elections, 50 percent of the elected women councilors of Municipal Corporation Patiala and Nagar Panchayats Ghanour, Ghagga and Bhadson including Panchs, Sarpanches, Chairperson of Zila Parishad, other members and Chairpersons of Block Samiti were making a significant contribution to the development of their areas.
Meanwhile, Jashanpreet Kaur Gill, Deputy Director, Local Government Department said that Rajpura Municipal Council has a total of 31 wards out of which 15 wards are reserved for women. Similarly there are 11 wards out of 23 in Nabha Municipal Council, 10 out of 21 wards in Samana, in Sanour Municipal Council 7 out of 15 are reserved for women candidates. While the notification of new delimitation of Municipal Council Patran is yet to be finalized, which 8 wards out of 17 will be reserved for women.
