5000 students engaged Under Bal Sansad Program

Ludhiana, September 23, 2024: About 5000 students from 50 schools, aged 10 to 17 are participating in the district administration's ambitious Bal Sansad program. Children's Parliaments have been set up in these schools.

Under this program, Children's Parliaments have been established in participating schools, providing a democratic platform for students to engage in governance and decision-making processes. Each Bal Sansad consists of a Prime Minister, Ministers (handling portfolios such as Health, Education, Environment, and Sports), and Members of Parliament (MPs) representing various classes, ensuring wide participation.

A significant achievement of the program is the creation of new ministries proposed by the students during the Creative Corner discussions held from August 7th to 19th. These ministries demonstrate the students' capacity to identify and address real issues, showcasing their leadership and critical thinking skills fostered by the Bal Sansad program. The ministries include:
- Anti-Bullying Ministry: Focused on creating a safe and supportive environment by addressing and preventing bullying.
- No to Drugs Ministry: Promoting awareness and prevention of drug use, advocating for a drug-free campus.
- Water Ministry: Ensuring access to clean drinking water for students and staff.
- School Maintenance Ministry: Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in schools, especially classrooms and restrooms.
- Menstrual Hygiene Ministry: Raising awareness on menstrual health and ensuring proper hygiene management.
- Laughing Ministry: Encouraging mental well-being and stress relief through positive engagement and humor.
- Mobile Ministry: Addressing mobile phone addiction among students and promoting healthy screen time habits.
- Ministry of Failure: Promoting the idea that failure is part of the learning process and encouraging student resilience.

Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal mentioned that the school children enthusiastically participated in the electoral process. He emphasized that this initiative will help them take on leadership roles, discuss and debate critical issues, and encourage their civic sense from an early age, making them responsible and good citizens. He also highlighted that this program will equip students with leadership, participation, democratic engagement, and decision-making abilities. He also applauded the Wings of Wisdom Foundation (WoWF) and its team led by Anuja Naik (CEO, WoWF) and co-founder Samuel Dutta, including key members such as Harmesh Singh, Naresh Kumar, Vishwakirat Kaur Kahlon, Superjeet Kaur, Guriqbal Singh, among others for implementing the program successfully. He also applauded the efforts of DDF Ambar for the end to end execution of the project.

This program, the first of its kind in Punjab, was rolled out across 50 schools in Ludhiana from August 1st. It represents a remarkable step forward in empowering students to take leadership roles, build civic awareness, and actively engage in democratic processes.
