5103 Beneficiaries of Ashirwad Scheme receive Rs.11.34 crore in Nawanshahr

Nawanshahr, December 21, 2021: As many as 5103 beneficiaries of Punjab Government’s flagship Ashirward Scheme have received around Rs 11.34 crore as financial assistance in the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district since April 1, 2017 to September 1, 2021.
Disclosing further details, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal said that the department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities has paid Rs 10.27 crore to 4892 beneficiaries at Rs 21000  (per case) from April 1, 2017 to June 30, 2021. He said that then Punjab government enhanced the financial aid from Rs 21000 to Rs 51000 from July 1, 2021 and from onwards to September 1, 2021, 211 applicants of Ashirwad schemes belonging to SBS Nagar had received the benefits of Rs 1.07 crore.
Deputy Commissioner further added that pending applications for the assistance under the scheme were also under process and the amount would be deposited directly into their accounts.
He said that under this scheme, the state government provides monetary help to the family of a girl belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC), Backward Classes (BC) or economically weaker sections of society and daughters of widows of any caste.
Mr Sarangal told that the amount is transferred under DBT mode to the beneficiaries and the applicant has to submit application for getting financial assistance in the prescribed proforma before the date of marriage or 30 days after the marriage of the girl.
Deputy Commissioner said that to avail the benefit, the annual income of the family from all sources should not exceed Rs 32,790. The parents/guardians of the girl should be domiciled of Punjab and the financial assistance under this scheme is limited to two girls only from one family, he stated.
District Social Justice and Empowerment Officer, Ashish Kathuria said that the pending cases of beneficiaries have also been forwarded to headquarters in Chandigarh after completing all formalities and the benefits would be directly extended to them through their bank accounts.
