54th annual athletic meet concludes at PAU

Ludhiana: The College of Agriculture lifted the Athletic Trophy (Men and Women) during the 54th Annual Athletic Meet, which concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Thursday evening. Three students of the College of Agriculture, namely Jobanjit Singh, Pardeep Singh and Arshdeep Singh were adjudged as the best, second best and the third best athletes in men category, respectively. Harmeet Kaur, a student of College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, was declared the Best Athlete (Women), whereas Simranjot Kaur of College of Agriculture and Harleen Kaur of College of Community Science were declared the second and the third best athletes in women category, respectively. Jashanpreet Singh, a student of Institute of Agriculture, Gurdaspur, was adjudged as the Best Cyclist (Men), while Lovedeep Kaur, a student of College of Agriculture, was adjudged as the Best Cyclist (Women). Akashveer Singh Grewal of College of Agriculture was declared as the Best Hockey Player. The College of Community Science bagged the Best March Past Trophy.

At the closing ceremony, Arjuna Awardee Sukhpal Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Ludhiana, was the chief guest. He lauded the students for their achievements in sports and co-curricular activities. Later, he distributed prizes amongst the winners.

Earlier, Dr (Mrs) RK Dhaliwal, Director Students’ Welfare, presented the annual report highlighting the achievements of the sportspersons of PAU for the session 2019-20. She informed that the young budding athletes of the constituent colleges of PAU participated in 28 events during the 54th Annual Athletic Meet.

Later, Dr SS Hundal, Professor, Zoology, proposed the vote of thanks. On the occasion, senior officials, faculty, students and staff of the University were present.
