57TH Annual Athletic Meet: A spectacular start with record-breaking triumphs!

Ludhiana, February 29, 2024: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana's 57th Annual Athletic Meet commenced with a bang, setting the stage for a thrilling showcase of sportsmanship and talent. The event, graced by dignitaries and athletes alike, was a testament to the university's commitment to holistic development and excellence.

Distinguished guests, including Sanjiv Arora, Member of Parliament, and Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board, joined PAU Vice Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal and other esteemed personalities to inaugurate the meet.

In his inaugural address, Chief Guest Shri Sanjeev Arora underscored the significance of a state-of-the-art indoor stadium to nurture budding athletes and promote a culture of health and competition. He encouraged students to prioritize sports, emphasizing its role in fostering a disciplined and healthy lifestyle.

Harchand Singh Barsat hailed PAU's contributions to national development and commended its scientists for their pioneering research. He highlighted the university's legacy of producing scientific innovators and athletes who shine on the global stage.

The event witnessed a ceremonial run with the flame by distinguished sports personalities of PAU, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship. Athletes later took a collective pledge to uphold the values of fair play and dedication.

The day's highlight was the 100-meter race, where Avikash Singh of the College of Agriculture created history by breaking the university record with a sprint time of 10.9 seconds, a feat not achieved in 19 years.

The dignitaries felicitated the winners on the podium, with Avikash Singh securing the 1st position, Deep Kanwar Singh from the College of Agricultural Engineering securing the 2nd position, and Ramesh from the College of Agriculture securing the 3rd position.

The event concluded with releasing a souvenir commemorating PAU's contributions to sports and a symbolic release of colourful balloons, signifying the participants' aspirations to soar towards success.
