57th Engineers Day celebrated
The 57th Engineers Day was celebrated today by the Institution of Engineers (India), Ludhiana Local Chapter at its building on Dugri Road, Ludhiana.
Ludhiana, September 15, 2024: The 57th Engineers Day was celebrated today by the Institution of Engineers (India), Ludhiana Local Chapter at its building on Dugri Road, Ludhiana.
The function marks the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagondam Visvasverayya, the greatest engineer of all times. The function started with traditional lamp lighting done by Special Guest Er. Sanjay Kanwar, SE, Smart City project, Ludhiana, Guest of Honor Dr. Rakesh Sharda, Project Coordinator, ICAR-CIPHET, PAU, Ludhiana, Chairman, IE(I), Ludhiana local chapter Dr. Arvind Dhingra, Honorary Secretary Er. Surinder Singh, expert speakers Dr. Amit Kamra and Dr. Rajwinder Singh Bansal. A small introduction of Sir MV was also shown. Portrait of Sir M Visvasverayya was garlanded.
The welcome address was delivered by Honorary Secretary Er. Surinder Singh who is presently serving as XEN, MC, Ludhiana. The theme of the day: Driving Sustainability with Engineering Solutions embracing the latest AI driven technologies was explained by Chairman Dr. Arvind Dhingra who is currently Executive Director, STEP GNDEC, Ludhiana.
Two expert sessions were also held. In the first session Dr. Amit Kamra, faculty, GNDEC, Ludhiana highlighted the importance of AI driven technologies for sustainability. He explained in detail about various applications with examples. In the second session by Dr. Rajwinder Singh Bansal, HOD(Civil), RIET, Phagwara the intricacies of deployment of AI driven technologies for sustainability were addressed.
Guest of Honor Dr. Rakesh Sharda who is also the president of Vignan Bharti, Punjab Chapter said that the world was evolving at a fast pace. AI application has its own risks. But judicious use of AI driven technologies in all fields would prove beneficial for promoting sustainability. Special Guest Er. Sanjay Kanwar in his address highlighted as to how AI driven technologies were helping in making our cities smarter and sustainable.
While proposing the formal vote thanks, Dr. Arvind Dhingra said that IE(I) was making all efforts to involve engineers from all disciplines to promote UN SDGs for sustainable development. He also highlighted the benefits of being member of IE(I), the oldest engineering organization in the country.
The meeting was adjourned after national anthem.
Engineers from various government departments including MC, Ludhiana, PWD (B&R), PSPCL and students from colleges and their families attended the event.
