5th Amity National Moot Court Competition 

The 5thAmity National Moot Court Competition, 2022 (20th May to 22nd May, 2022) organized by Amity Law School, Amity University Haryana was inaugurated by Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh, Governor of Uttarakhand and Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.

The event will seek to integrate the academic potential, legal insight and art of advocacy amongst the law students of 16 Teams, each comprising of 03 students from prestigious Law Schools/Universities of the country wherein their mooting and drafting abilities and argumentative skills would be put to test. These 16 Teams represent the best in the country, some of these being, National Law Universities, Lloyd Law College, Delhi University, Sikkim Govt Law College, Symbiosis Noida and Army Institute of Law, Mohali. 

Expressing his appreciation for the theme of the competition Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh said that such events inculcate the art of Advocacy and Ethics among budding lawyers. He said that such competitions are a medium to enhance thought processes, Innovation and conceptual clarity in students. Praising the efforts of Amity University in imparting quality education, he suggested that Amity should open a campus in the State of Uttarakhand also.

He further stated that a society should be like a Trishul ensuring that “Truth Shall Prevail”, “Justice from Soul” and “Justice for All”. He concluded saying that with the changes in the society, law also needs to change.

Prof. SP Singh Baghel, Minister of State while addressing the gathering, emphasized on the importance of holding such Moot Court Competitions. He said that every citizen wants to avail Fundamental Rights enshrined in the Constitution, but forgets that the same Constitution also lays down Fundamental Duties of citizens. He said that the Law School must spread awareness about such duties. He also advised that, every young lawyer must work towards providing free legal aid to poor and needy people. He apprised the audience that under the dynamic leadership of the Prime Minister, nearly 1450 outdated and British Era laws have been repealed. He exhorted the Law Students and all the participants to suggest changes in Laws to make them better.

Prof. P.B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Haryana emphasized the importance of the Constitution in a country and agreed to the fact that the Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties are of equal importance, and everybody should discharge these duties enshrined in the Constitution. The Fundamental Rights are important for the development of an individual, Fundamental Duties are important for the advancement of the nation as a whole.

While proposing the Vote of Thanks, Maj. Gen. P.K. Sharma stated that our Law School understands the importance of Fundamental Duties and we provide the text of the same to all our students so that they are well aware of their duties. We have a Legal Aid Cell that works for spreading awareness on legal and social issues and to provide free legal aid to the nearby villagers. He expressed his gratitude towards the guests who despite their busy schedule spared their valuable time in blessing the competition.

All the Faculty Members of Amity Law School, including Mr. Pranshul Pathak, Dr. Ajay Bhatt, Dr. Monica Yadav, Dr. Ankita Sharma, Ms. Neha Mishra and nearly 200 students and scholars also attended this event. With the concerted efforts of the Student Convenors Mr. Raghvendra Dadhich and Ms. Muskan Bhaskar and their team members comprising Shambhavi Pandey, Ananya Gaur, Yashika Manchanda and Aswathi and others, the virtual inauguration ceremony turned out to be an excellent event.
