Ludhiana, September 25, 2012:The 4 day 6th All India Conference of BSNL Employees Union began here today.
The conference started with national flag hoisting ceremony by Com. V. A. N. Namboodiri, President, BSNLEU and union flag hoisting by Com P Abhimanyu, General Secretary, BSNLEU.
The Inaugural session started with welcome address to delegates/observers and guests by Prof. H. S. Sidhu, Chairman, Reception Committee.
In his address to gathering, Prof. Sidhu elaborated the present economic situation of country and its implication on common man across the coyntry. He said that the role of public sector which was created to control the commanding heights of the Indian economy is being systematically reduced. The working class is under attack. Infact the entire burden of the system’s crisis is being passed on to the working class i.e. the peasants and workers. But instead of boosting demand by giving more disposable income to the working class, the government is trying to tackle this crisis by bringing in more foreign capital through foreign direct investments even in such non essential areas as multi-brand retailing. Thus, instead of boosting domestic demand, it is being argued that workers wages should be further moderated to make the Indian economy globally competitive.
Adding, he said the present crisis in which India finds itself is the result of wrong policies being followed by the state but blame is being put on high wages and the working class is being forced to bear the burden. Therefore, the challenge before people is to unitedly face the onslaught of the ruling classes and defend the gains made by the working class which were won through long drawn struggles.
Com. A.K. Padmanabhan, President, CITU while inaugurating the conference congratulated the BSNL employees for their role in the joint struggles with the main stream trade union movement and independent struggles to save BSNL from onslaughts of the anti public sector policies of the central government. He condemned the UPA-II government for introducing FDI in retail, hike in petroleum products and LPG there by burdening the common man. The large scale scams in public sector companies shows how the people at the helm of affairs are looting the nation along with the corporate sector. But he expressed confidence that the total unity of the trade union movement irrespective of their affiliations is a ray of hope to counter the anti working class policies of the government. The Unions like BMS affiliated to BJP, INTUC affiliated to Congress and all left unions have come together and declared a series of struggles culminating in 2 day strike in February, 2013. He assured full support of CITU to the struggles of BSNLEU.
Com. M. Krishnan, Secretary General, NFPE while addressing the gathering, whishes success of the conference and congratulate the reception committee for tremendous arrangements of the conference. He further said that government is attacking the worker class through their policies. There is no room for worker class welfare in government policies.
Com. P Abhimanyu, General Secretary, BSNLEU while addressing the house claimed that BSNLEU will fight against the pro-private policies of the Central Government. He alleged that Kapil Sibal, Telecom Minister is favoring private operators for his personnel benefits.
Com. Abhimanyu told the house that they had stopped VRS and private policy of the government. He called upon all the working class to start a serious fight over the issues relating to the workers livelihood and for the future.
Com. Asoka Babu, Deputy General Secretary, BSNLEU highlighted that the revenue of private operators is increasing day by day while BSNL is going in deficit due the anti BSNL policies of the Central Government. He demanded the restoration of ADC for providing telecommunication services in rural areas, which is the major cause of losses to the BSNL.
Com. VAN Namboodiri, President, BSNLEU presided over the session.
