6th International Conference on Nutraceuticals and Chronic Diseases concludes 

Chandigarh, February 24, 2024: Panjab University's department of Biochemistry concludes the 6th International Conference on Nutraceuticals and Chronic Diseases, a three-day programme dedicated to translational cancer research. 
 
The event featured delegates from countries like US, Japan, and institutions like IIT, AIIMS, centre and state universities. The chief guest was IFS Navneet Kumar Srivastava, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Paryavaran Bhawan, Chandigarh.
 
The concluding sessions witnessed both national and international experts. Dr. Murali Yallapu, Co-director of the Medicine and Oncology Unit at the South Texas Center of Excellence in Cancer Research, US, discussed the urgent need for natural compounds in cancer treatment. Highlighting gambogic acid's potential, he emphasised its diverse anti-cancer properties and nanoformulation advancements. 
 
PU's University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences Prof. Indu Pal Kaur highlighted the significance of nanotechnological approaches in enhancing the bioavailability of nutraceuticals. She discussed the role of solid lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, and nanolipid carriers in delivering labile nutraceuticals effectively, especially exemplified with curcumin's therapeutic potential.
 
Dr. Monika Garg, Scientist-F at the National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute in Mohali, presented groundbreaking research on nutraceuticals. Her work focused on developing black wheat varieties enriched with anthocyanins, iron, and zinc to combat malnutrition and address health challenges like obesity and diabetes. 
 
Najeeb S. of University of Kerala's Zoology Department, Souvik Karmarkar of IISER Kolkata, Soshmita Girisa from IIT Guwahati's Biosciences and Bioengineering Department, and Abhishek Goel of CSIR-IHBT Palampur, each receive a ₹4k cash award for their outstanding oral presentations.
 
Gitika Bajaj of the National Agri Biotechnology Institute, Mohali, and Rishika Rohilla from the Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University, secured first position in the poster presentation category and received a cash prize of ₹2500 each.
 
Uzini Devi from IIT Guwahati, Parampal Singh from PGIMER Department of Biochemistry, Tanya Tripathi from PU's Department of Zoology and Payal Singh from the BHU's Department of Zoology were honoured by the Society for Neutraceuticals and Chronic Diseases for their poster presentations.
