7th Amateur Golfers Society Golf Tournament held
Brig G.J. Singh emerged as the winner in the Handicap 0-9 category at the 7th Amateur Golfers Society Golf Tournament held at the Panchkula Golf Club (PGC) on Sunday. Showcasing exceptional skills on the golf course, Brig G J Singh clinched the top spot in Handicap 0-9 category with an impressive score of 73 in this prestigious tournament.
Panchkula, December 22, 2024: Brig G.J. Singh emerged as the winner in the Handicap 0-9 category at the 7th Amateur Golfers Society Golf Tournament held at the Panchkula Golf Club (PGC) on Sunday. Showcasing exceptional skills on the golf course, Brig G J Singh clinched the top spot in Handicap 0-9 category with an impressive score of 73 in this prestigious tournament.
A total of 96 amateur golfers, including eight women, participated in the event, with golfers playing all 18 holes on the par-72 course.
In a stellar performance, Madhu Garg with a score of 96 was the winner; she also won the title of 'straightest drive'. In the Handicap 17 and above category, Vinay K. Kalra claimed the Winner’s title with a score of 78 while Dr Anil Rattan secured the Runner-Up position with a score of 79. In the Handicap 10-16 category, Vivek Kumar emerged victorious with an impressive score of 75 while Dr R.K. Talwar finished as the Runner-Up with a score of 79. The winners were felicitated with trophies and gift hampers to honor their achievements.
The tournament was organised by the Amateur Golfers Society (AGS), a non-governmental organization (NGO) and Prof. Dheeraj Sharma, Director, Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak was the chief guest. Mr. Vijay Aggarwal and Mr. Naresh Nagpal were the Guests' of Honour .
Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Suresh K. Gupta, Founder Trustee of AGS, congratulated the participants and winners, saying, “It’s overwhelming to see such enthusiasm from the golfing community. This tournament is a celebration of talent and the spirit of golf, which will not only promote the golfing culture in the region but also help foster new talent in the near future.”
Reaffirming AGS’s commitment to advancing the sport, S.S. Prasad, a former IAS officer and former Home Secretary of Haryana said, “Our aim is to create more opportunities by organising tournaments like these so that amateur talent can showcase their skills."
Highlighting the growing interest in women’s golf, Tavleen Batra expressed her delight, saying, “It is heart-warming to see an increasing number of women participating in tournaments like this. Young girls are showing keen interest in the sport and picking up golf clubs at an early age, signalling a bright future for women golfers in the country. Events like this not only provide a platform for budding golfers to showcase their skills but also pave the way for new talent to emerge.”
The tournament was organised with the support of Alpine Towers, Bluehouse - Gushaini Tirthan Valley (Kullu), Haryana Marble (Dhanas), FinClu , Golfer & Industrialist Krishan Gopal Goel and Gupta Eye Hospital, Panchkula.
AGS working towards establishing a Golf Range in Panchkula:
Suresh K. Gupta, Founder Trustee of AGS said, “Since Panchkula Golf Club has no Golf Range, it is high time for the Haryana Government to allot land to our NGO - Amateur Golfers Society for developing a golf range.
“I have personally handed over the request of AGS to Chief Minister Haryana, which is under active consideration of the Haryana Government. We also want to open golf ranges in various districts of Haryana to popularise the game.”
