Ludhiana, October 31, 2019: Two-day “7th National Biennial Conference (GISICON-2019)” started today in Auditorium of DMC College Campus, with lot many informative scientific lectures by the distinguished speakers.
The day started with lecture on ‘Hepatic Manifestations of Tropical Diseases’ by Dr Deepinder Chhina (Professor & Head of Microbioloy), who is also Organizing Secretary of the conference.
In her lecture, Dr Deepinder Chhina said that ‘Tropical diseases’ are the diseases that are prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions like India, which have a hot climate most of the year and also have larger volume of rains, which forms an ideal breeding ground for a large number of insect vectors and infective organisms. Insects such as mosquitoes and flies are by far the most common disease carriers.
Dr Rajesh Mahajan (Professor of Medicine) spoke on ‘Gastrointestinal Manifestations of new and emerging infections’ followed by lectures on ‘GI and Acute Gastroenteritis in children and neonates’ by Dr Puneet Aulakh Pooni and and Dr Kamal Arora of Pediatrics Department, DMCH.
Principal Dr Sandeep Puri delivered lecture on ‘GI Manifestations in Enteric (typhoid) fever’. In his lecture, Dr Puri said that street food is the main source of typhoid fever as it is not made in a hygienic way and could be a source of infection.
A presidential address was made by Dr Varsha Gupta on ‘Recent advances in testing gastrointestinal (GI) Infections.
In addition to the above-mentioned lectures delivered by distinguished guest speakers, renowned faculty members from different medical colleges of the country also spoke on different aspects of gastrointestinal diseases and their prevention.
Organzing Chairman-Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina informed that the conference will be formally inaugurated tomorrow by the chief guest-Dr VM Katoch (Former Secretary, Department of Health Research) in the presence of other dignitaries including Dr YK Chawla (Ex-Director, PGIMER Chandigarh) and Dr Ajay Kumar (President, Indian Society of Gastroenterology).
