80 oncology experts attend seminar on breast cancer

Mohali, February 10, 2025: As many as 80 oncology experts from Tricity and Punjab took part in Max Hospital, Mohali’s seminar on ‘clinical updates on breast cancer 2025 on Sunday.

During the seminar, experts discussed the latest advancements in oncology, specifically focusing on breast cancer treatment.
Addressing seminar Dr. Sachin Gupta director medical oncology and hemato-oncology at Max said, “The treatment for breast cancer depends on the subtype of cancer and its stage. If the cancer has spread beyond the breast to the lymph nodes (stages II or III) or other parts of the body (stage IV), the treatment plan may vary,”

Today, thanks to precision diagnosis and personalized medicine, breast cancer patients can be managed more effectively, he opined.

He further said that in recent years, several new targeted therapies have been approved for breast cancer, but there remains a need for more and better treatment options, especially for complex cases like triple-negative breast cancer, where chemotherapy is currently the only option.

Dr. Gupta further explained that radiation therapy plays a crucial role in treating residual microscopic cancer cells left in the breast tissue or lymph nodes, reducing the chances of cancer recurring on the chest wall.

Technological innovations such as radiomics and artificial intelligence, along with the tireless efforts of researchers, have opened the door to precision diagnosis, enhanced treatment strategies, and more personalized care for breast cancer patients, he informed.
