83rd Birth Anniversary of Jagdev Singh Jassowal celebrated in a big way

Eminent Punjabi writer Ninder Ghugiyanvi honoured with Jagdev Singh Jassowal Memorial Heritage Award; Jassowal’s statue to be installed at a crossing on Pakhowal Road
Ludhiana, April 30, 2017: A mega function was held at the Virasat Bhawan, Palam Vihar, Pakhowal Road, to celebrate the 83rd Birth Anniversary of S.Jagdev Singh Jassowal, a connoisseur of the Punjabi culture, language and heritage. Prominent personalities representing diverse profiles of society participated in the function.

On this occasion, eminent Punjabi writer Ninder Ghugiyanvi was honoured with Jagdev Singh Jassowal Memorial Heritage Award, for his contribution in Punjabi literature and culture. Dr S.S.Johl, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Member of Parliament, D.R.Bhatti, Kuldeep Singh Vaid, MLA, H.S. Phoolka, MLA, Jagtar Singh Jagga, MLA, Malkit Singh Dakha, MLA; Harinder Singh Chahal, ex DIG were among those who presented the award carrying a memento, shawl and citation to Mr Ghugiyanvi .

Mr Pargat Singh Grewal, president said that Ghugiyanvi , despite his being not very highly educated has written dozens of books on various dimensions of society with a focus on Punjabi culture and values, adding that Ghugiyanvi was an accomplished radio artist.

The function started with the garlanding of Mr Jagdev Singh Jassowal’s statue in the compound of the Virasat Bhawan, by prominent personalities including Gurnam Singh Dhaliwal, Ravinder Grewal, Iqbal Singh Roorka; Master Sadhu Singh Grewal, Rajiv Kumar Lovely, Gurnek Singh Grewal, Gurbhajan Gill, Krishan Kumar Bawa, Amrinder Singh, Dr Nirmal Jaura, Dr Jagtar Dhiman, Dilbagh Singh Khatrai Kalan, Jagroop Singh Jarkhar, Jasmer Dhatt, Ravjeet Kaur, Sarpanch Jagwinder Singh, Gurdev Singh Lapran, Vir Sukhwant, Harbans Sahota, Singers Pali Detwalia, K. Deep, Surinder Shinda, Dalbir Ludhianvi, K. S. Peter, Jasbir Jass, Sarabjit Babbu, Chamak Chamkila, Such Chamkila, Daljit Bagi, Gulzar Pandher, Dr Jarnail Singh, IPS, Sandeep Rupalon, Gurtej Chhabra, and others. A birthday cake was also cut on the occasion amidst raising slogans in praise of Mr Jagdev Singh Jassowal.

Addressing a huge gathering, Dr S S Johl, Ravneet Singh Bittoo, D.R.Bhatti, Kuldeep Singh Vaid, Gurbhajan Gill, Jagroop Jarkhar, Harinder Chahal, K.K.Bawa, Ravinder Grewal, and others shared their reminiscences of the time spent with Mr Jassowal. They described Mr Jassowal a perfect individual, who always exerted to side with the deserving, identify creativity and talent among masses, upheld the values of Punjabi culture, heritage and language. Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu, MP said that a magnificent statue of Mr Jassowal will be installed at a prominent crossing on Pakhowal Road soon. The local MLA Kuldeep Singh Vaid announced that the widening and metalling of road in front of Palam Vihar and Virasat Bhawan will be completed on priority.

A play written by Dr Ajmer Aulakh , “Jhana de Paani” was staged on the occasion under direction of Jasbir Singh Barundi. The climax was when the choreographed song “Jutti Kasoori” of Surinder Kaur was presented. Mr Pargat Singh Grewal declared that one play will be staged in the Virasat Bhawan, every month.

Dr Nirmal Jaura conducted the proceedings of the programme while Harinder Chahal proposed his vote of thanks. A langar was served to all on the occasion.
