8th Convocation and 48th Prize Giving Annual Function at CDOE

Chandigarh, April 26, 2024: The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE, formerly USOL), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised its scintillating annual events—8th Convocation and 48th prize giving function today in its auditorium.
In his convocation address, the Chief-Guest, Prof Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University, Mahendergarh, Haryana, shed light on the significance of distance and online education as it underscores the timeless value of seeking knowledge irrespective of the physical boundaries, and how the technology extends the accessibility of education directly to the doorsteps of those who otherwise might remain excluded. Prof Kumar also highlighted that the “Gurkul” system of education, well accounted for in ancient Indian scriptures, resonates with the principles of the modern distance learning.
Guest of Honour, Prof R.K. Gupta, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Agrasen University, Solan, H.P. spoke about the NEP-2020, how it envisions the future of inclusive higher education and the important role the distance education centres will play to meet the country’s educational goals foregrounding the values of equity and inclusivity. Guest of Honour Prof. Y.P Verma, Registrar of the university, stressed the importance of ‘knowledge economy” and its agency in driving innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable growth in today’s interconnected world.
Earlier, Prof Harsh Gandhar, Director, CDOE, welcomed the dignitaries and in her brief introduction, highlighted the institution’s pioneering role in the field of open and online education and its accreditation with NAAC A++ rating. Prof Gandhar also added that the significant academic contributions and commitment of the faculty members in ensuring the academic and extracurricular growth of the distance learners hailing from diverse backgrounds and regions. As many as seventy five students received degrees and eighty seven students were conferred upon prizes for excelling in academics as well as in extracurricular activities.
Organising Secretary Prof Supreet and conveners Dr Kamala Sandhu and Dr Sucha Singh put their best to the events a success. Prof Geeta Bansal conducted the stage and Prof Swaranjit proposed a vote of thanks.
