Mohali, May 26, 2022: 9-year Gurjot Singh (name changed) from Hoshiarpur got a new lease of life after he underwent a successful surgery for a huge hole in his heart at Ivy Hospital, Mohali. The boy's main, mitral valve was also leaking badly.
Dr Harinder Singh Bedi, Director of Cardiovascular Sciences at Ivy who along with a team including Dr Jiten Singh and Dr Vikram Arora carried out the procedure on the kid said that they could foresee that without early surgery, Gurjot would have a limited lifespan.
Gurjot’s case was especially difficult because of the presence of heart failure due to valve leakage and the challenge was to repair the valve so that it would grow with the patient, he maintained.
A delicate operation of a complex mitral repair with closure of the hole was performed using a heart lung machine so that Gurjot’s heart could be stopped and repaired. The operation was successful, said Dr Bedi.
