Ludhiana, February 14, 2023: After distributing degrees to students of different streams at annual convocation of SCD Government College, Ludhiana, on Tuesday, Sanjeev Arora, MP (Rajya Sabha) on Tuesday asked the students to celebrate and enjoy as they are Graduates and it is most important day of life.

Being an alumni of the college Arora recalled the days when he was a student of the college. He remembered his old teachers, principals and colleagues, and said he did his graduation in the year 1983. His then teacher RS Gupta and colleague Gurpreet Kaur were also present on the occasion. In an emotional tone, Arora said, “After entering the college premises today, I was feeling as if I am here to attend the college.”

Arora announced a grant of Rs.1 crore out of MPLAD Fund for the college. This is the biggest ever grant he has announced for any institution so far, he said, adding that he feels proud that he has been able to serve to his alma mater.

He congratulated all the students on receiving their degrees and said now their new journey begins from today onwards. In his speech, he motivated the students to grow in their life but never forget the key role played by their parents and the teachers in writing their success story. He asked the young degree holders to first go to their parents to “thank” them.

Arora asked the students to give preference to live and work in their own country instead of going abroad. He said, “Never try to follow others. Rather, take your own decisions with your own wisdom”, he said, adding that, presently, there are enough opportunities for youngsters to make their career in their desired field. Even many Indians settled abroad are returning back to their motherland now, he pointed out.

He asked the educated girls not to sit idle after their marriages. Rather, girls should take complete benefit of their degrees and stand on their own, he said.

The college principal Prof (Dr) Tanvir Likhari read out report of the college achievements. She also expressed her gratitude to Arora for announcing a grant of Rs.1 crore for the college. She said the college convocation was being held after three years due to the pandemic.
