9th Annual Inter College Sports Meet Kicks Off at UHF Nauni

The 9th Annual Inter College Sports, Games, and Athletic Meet commenced at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni. The three-day event aims to promote holistic development and physical fitness among students and has seen enthusiastic participation from the university's four constituent colleges: the Colleges of Horticulture and Forestry at Nauni (main campus), and the Colleges of Horticulture and Forestry at Neri and Thunag.

Nauni– The 9th Annual Inter College Sports, Games, and Athletic Meet commenced at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni. The three-day event aims to promote holistic development and physical fitness among students and has seen enthusiastic participation from the university's four constituent colleges: the Colleges of Horticulture and Forestry at Nauni (main campus), and the Colleges of Horticulture and Forestry at Neri and Thunag.

Gaurav Singh, Superintendent of Police, Solan, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, Singh emphasized the importance of extracurricular activities in shaping well-rounded individuals and fostering qualities essential for personal and professional success.

 

Commending the students and the university for their active participation in sports, Singh underlined how sports nurture leadership, teamwork, time management and decision-making skills. He encouraged students to pursue sports not just competitively but as a lifelong habit for maintaining physical and mental well-being.

 

Addressing the rising concern of drug abuse, Singh delivered a strong message urging students to resist peer pressure and reject harmful substances. Sharing real-life examples, he highlighted the psychological, social and legal consequences of drug use. He advised students to remain vigilant, support one another and seek guidance from parents, teachers or law enforcement when needed. Participation in sports, he added, is a constructive way to stay engaged and develop a strong moral compass.

 

Earlier, Dr. HP Sankhyan, Dean of Students’ Welfare, welcomed the Chief Guest and participants. He emphasized the value of sportsmanship and encouraged students to embrace the broader life lessons that come from athletic engagement. He briefed about the university’s efforts to promote participation in extracurricular activities along with academics.

 

The sportsmanship oath was administered by Anjali Thakur, a fourth-year undergraduate student, setting the stage for the vibrant competitions ahead. The march past by contingents from all four colleges reflected a high level of coordination and discipline.

 

This year, over 360 students are participating in various events, including a wide array of track and field competitions such as 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, and 10,000m races, along with relays (4x100m and 4x400m). Field events will include Shot Put, Javelin, Discus Throw, Long Jump, High Jump, and Triple Jump.Team sports such as Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Kabaddi, Badminton, Table Tennis, and Chess will also be contested. Cumulative scores from all events will determine the overall championship winners.
