A book on ‘Pollution and Health’ released

Ludhiana, January 20, 2025: Under the Auspices of the ‘Physicians Research Foundation’ Research Wing a monograph titled ‘Pollution and Health’ was recently launched. This comprehensive publication addresses the adverse effects of pollution on human health.
This book was launched in the presence of Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Minister of Science & Technology, Ministry of Health Sciences & Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy & Department of Space, Govt. of India. The occasion was graced by Prof. Dr. Vitull K. Gupta, Chief Editor and Chairman of the Association of Physicians of India (API), Malwa Brancha and Dr G S Wander, Principal, DMC&H and Director, Physicians Research Foundation.
This book contains 34 chapters and have contribution of 86 experts across India. Offering a detailed exploration of pollution’s impact on various systems of the body.
Rising pollution levels, including air, water and noise pollution creates serious global health concerns. Air pollution increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and respiratory issues. Water pollution leads to infections, cancers, and neurological problems. Noise pollution contributes to stress, sleep disorders and heart issues. Collectively, these pollutants are spoiling the health of the public and highlighting the urgent need to save our planet.
Sh Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, appreciated the efforts and congratulated to the entire team on the release of this informative book. It is very crucial to spread awareness about pollution and to take steps to reduce its impact on human health said Sh. Gupta.
Dr G S Wander, Principal, DMC&H and Director, Physicians Research Foundation said that the effects of pollution on health are undeniable and this book will serves as a wake-up-call for all. Pollution is now one of the biggest threats on human health and has deadly impact. Further he emphasized the role of all the physicians of DMC&H including Dr Shiba Takkrar Chhabra and Dr Abhishek Goyal from Department of Cardiology, Dr Monika Singla from Department of Neurology , Dr Jaspriya Sandhu and Dr Navneet Kaur from Department of Dermatology in the fight against pollution.
Giving information about this book, Dr Wander and his team elaborated that this book provides detailed insights into the effects of air, water, soil, and noise pollution on health. It covers topics such as global warming, climate change and their implications for cardiovascular health, while also addressing conditions such as cancer, respiratory diseases like asthma and COPD, and neurological and psychiatric disorders.
Notably, the monograph includes a chapter on the spiritual dimensions of pollution, adding an important cultural context. The aim of this monograph is to raise awareness and encourage collective efforts to reduce pollution’s impact on human health.
