A review of political scenario in Punjab and other states
MODI’S RECENT VISIT TO PUNJAB HAS A GREAT SIGNIFICANCE
In a significant move Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (November 5, 2022) visited Radha Soami Satsang at Beas, Amritsar and met its Chief Gurinder Singh Dhillon. Prime Minister Modi visited merely few days before assembly elections to be held in the Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, and Municipal Corporation Delhi (MCD) elections. Thus, this move is considered to be a significant one.
IT'S POLL TIME
The voters of Himachal Pradesh are going to elect their new assembly on 12th Nov 2022 through ballot, whereas in Gujarat the people will vote in two phases on 1st Dec and 5th Dec 2022 to elect new assembly whereas the people of Delhi will be voting for Municipal Corporation on 4th Dec 2022. These elections are crucial especially in Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Gujarat. This time Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat will be witnessing triangular contests. The results of Himachal Pradesh and Delhi will clearly reflect on the North India whereas the Gujarat election results will reflect the future assembly elections to be held in 2023 of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Telangana, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram. Similarly, the results of Municipal Corporation Delhi will also reflect the present mood of the masses. BJP is confident of winning MCD elections. The major reason may be the issue of air pollution which has created havoc in the Capital and adjoining areas. There may be some other reasons also but the political parties will certainly blame AAP for stubble burning in Punjab. BJP will highlight on the funds released by the Center to Punjab to curb the menace of stubble burning by providing equipment and financial benefits to the farmers in Punjab.
Triangular contest can be witnessed in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. All the political parties are geared up and trying their best to motivate their cadre to secure maximum number of votes. Earlier in the past the state witnessed change of guards after every five years but this time BJP is hopeful that it will repeat due to the development works carried out in the state whereas Congress is also hopeful that AAP may cut the votes of BJP. One thing is clear that both the National parties are facing threat of rebels.
Earlier in the past assembly elections held in Gujarat there was a fight between Congress and the BJP. The latter is in power since more than two decades. This time AAP is also in the fray and hoping of increasing its vote percentage in the assembly elections. After landslide victory of AAP in the Punjab assembly elections the party is focusing on Gujarat and carrying out series of meetings with the people of Gujarat and have announced number of freebies facilities if voted to power. AAP is confident that the people will vote for them keeping in mind the poll promises and guarantees that have made with the people of Gujarat. Gujarat at present is one of the most flourishing states in the country and BJP in Gujarat is considered to having its stronghold in the state. AAP is hopeful of better performance whereas Congress will also have to show its presence with increasing its number of seats and vote bank. BJP will highlight its infrastructure development and industrial revolution carried out in Gujarat in the past two decades.
PUNJAB’S DETERIORATING LAW AND ORDER
The murder of Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri in Amritsar has raised number of questions towards deteriorating law and order conditions in Punjab. There is a growing demand that the Punjab Government and the Centre should immediately review the security of the state and the senior political leaders as well to ensure safety of lives and properties of people of the state.
