Chandigarh January 15, 2025: A three-day workshop titled “Hands-On AI, CAD Modeling, and Robotics for Advanced Engineering Solutions” started today at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET).
The event is organised by the Sensor Energy and Automation Lab (SEAL), UIET, and sponsored under the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s (MHRD) SPARC initiative, Government of India.
The workshop is coordinated by Dr. Gaurav Sapra, Professor Rajesh Kumar, and Dr. Garima Joshi from UIET in collaboration with Dr. Ankur Gupta from the Department of Cardiology, PGIMER, and Professor Mohsen Rahmani and Dr. Cuifeng Ying from Nottingham Trent University (NTU), UK.
The theme, “Hands-On AI, CAD Modeling, and Robotics for Advanced Engineering Solutions,” has been chosen to empower students with critical skills essential for today’s engineering graduates. These skills are foundational for excelling in research projects and solving real-world engineering challenges.
Participants include representatives from renowned institutions such as UIET, IIT Mandi, Chitkara University, CSIR, and NTU, UK. A key highlight of the workshop is its peer-led format, where students with extensive industrial project experience act as primary instructors. This innovative approach provides participants with practical, hands-on learning that bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry requirements.
Adding an international dimension, two PhD scholars from the Advanced Optics and Photonics School of Science and Technology at NTU, UK, who are part of the SPARC-UKIERI joint exchange program, are also actively participating in the workshop.
Dr. Gaurav Sapra, Associate Professor at UIET, welcomed the participants and emphasised the importance of continually updating essential skills to excel in research and effectively tackle global engineering challenges.
Professor Sanjeev Puri, Director of UIET, inspired the participants by emphasising the transformative role of AI, robotics, and CAD modeling in various fields. He encouraged students to approach the workshop with curiosity and enthusiasm, highlighting the significant impact these skills can have in addressing multidisciplinary challenges.
By the end of this three-day workshop, participants will be equipped to collaboratively work on projects integrating AI, CAD modeling, and robotics, enabling them to confidently address complex engineering challenges with a multidisciplinary approach.
