Aakri Kada app from Kerala Scrap Merchants Association to facilitate collection and recycling of scrap

Thiruvananthapuram, March 9, 2022: Rolling out measures aimed at effective collection and recycling of scrap, the Kerala Scrap Merchants Association (KSMA) has unveiled a new mobile application christened Aakri Kada. The app is an initial step in KSMA’s efforts to bring together the KSMA members and the general public who find it difficult to dispose of scrap that piles up in their homes and surroundings.

P Rajeeve, Minister for Industries, Government of Kerala, launched the Aakri Kada app and website on Wednesday at a function held at the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kerala Scrap Merchants Association (KSMA) is an organization of people working in the field of scrap trading in Kerala. Founded on July 20, 2017, the organization represents 95 percent of the traders working in the sector. Today, 90 per cent of the recyclable solid waste generated in Kerala is treated by the members of this organization. KSMA has been carrying out various activities for the upliftment of scrap merchants, since its inception.

Introduced as a service initiative with a social significance, the Aakri Kada app aims at ushering a noble concept that will be more useful to the general public, who find it extremely tough to dispose of scrap that piles up around them. KSMA members will be able to make use the service of this app in finding recyclable scrap. The app functions in such a way that the general public can click and upload pictures of scrap lying unused via a mobile phone. Images uploaded are alerted to KSMA members operating in the vicinity, and they will be able to collect the scrap meant for disposal directly from the persons who upload the images.

KSMA State President VM Kunji Muhammed presided over the function. KSMA State General Secretary KPA Sheriff elaborated on the functioning of the Aakri Kada app. Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Health Standing Committee Chairperson Jameela Sreedharan released the Aakri Kada uniforms. KSMA Vice Presidents Shebir Perumbavoor, TG Babu, Abdul Khader Kasargod and Mehboob Kozhikode; Joint Secretaries MC Bawa, Nisar Kannur, VK Rahim and Noushad OA; Anil Kattappana State (Treasurer) and Siraj VM (Patron) offered their felicitations. Mohammad Asif (Thiruvananthapuram District President & State Joint Secretary) welcomed the gathering, while Murugan Thevar (State Working President & Thiruvananthapuram District Secretary) expressed gratitude on behalf of the KSMA.
