Aam Aadmi Party celebrates Lohri in unique way

AAP, Ludhiana on Tuesday celebrates the festival of Lohri at Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, January 13, 2015: Continuing with its tradition of celebrating each festival in a unique way, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Ludhiana today also reached out to share the joy of Lohri with those who normally have no one to celebrate it with.
The celebrations started at the Party office where “Dhiyaan di Lohri” was celebrated. Volunteers of Aam Aadmi Party especially invited girls to the festivities where traditional sweets were distributed and bonfire lit and songs of Lohri were sung with Langar being served. According to Col.C.M.Lakhanpal who leads the Clean and Green Ludhiana Project : “We want to do away with the mindset  that only the male child should be the reason of Lohri celebrations and send out a message that a girl child is even greater source of joy and hence this “Dhiyaan di Lohri”.
The festivities then moved to the Senior Citizens Home at Sarabha Nagar. Sweets and fruits were distributed to the residents and cheer spread all around by the AAP volunteers.  The sheer joy on the faces of the older residents on being made part of the festivities was a sight to behold.
The conclusion of the festivities took place at the Bal Bhawan where Aam Aadmi Party volunteers distributed gifts to the little children and interacted with them spreading happiness all around.
According to Ahbaab Singh Grewal, District Convener of Aam Aadmi Party, “We want to include those who are forgotten by Society in the celebrations of each festival. We celebrated Raksha Bandhan with the Police Personnel who were on duty at different Police stations and Guru Purab with children at an orphanage. And today we have come to the Senior Citizens Home to celebrate Lohri with those who have been forsaken by their families and thus have no one to celebrate with. Along with the children at the Bal Bhawan, our endeavour is to spread the happiness of these festivals to include all so that they do not feel left out and despondent on this day. We wish for a day where each Senior citizen is well cared for by society and does not feel neglected or ignored and each child is loved and cherished.
